After seeing the product shots of this Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid I figured there should be some “darker” shots out there to emphasise the darker side of this magnificent instrument.
The paint job is called (tamely and inconspicuously I might say) “Ultraviolet”, but you can see it in several metallic colours depending of your viewing angle. In natural light it can be a brilliant blue, a deep purple, a slightly blue-ish turquoise, a bland plum, and even golden from a very narrow angle. Most of the wiewing angles show it in various shades of purple, but when I saw it first I approached it from one of its blue angles so I took it as a challenge to myself to try and capture that colour.
One thing I learned, chameleon paint is a pain to shoot, and it all depends on where your light source is. After managing to direct the light so that I can get a consistent blue across the entire body, I hit the next challenge. The complex shaping of the body top reflects the light quite unpredictably. Furthermore, a perfect product lighting would just eliminate the shadows that emphasise the beautifully sculpted curves of the top. Finally, for the editing part, there has been some tiny colour adjustment around the edges but nothing out of its blue spectre. If you look closely you will see a natural shade of purple on the headstock (which is angled so I couldn’t get it to show the same blue as the rest of the body at the same time). I’ve left that intentionally unadjusted.
